DAY 9: CATHERDANIEL TO SNEEM
HIKING INSTRUCTIONS
Starting opposite Freddy’s shop in the village, take the narrow, stony, fuchsia-lined path 700m uphill until it bears right, then cross the gate to the left and onto a boggy track.
Follow the most obvious stony/boggy tack for about 2km (there are occasional markers) until you come to a signpost.
The other route back to Waterville around Lough Currane continues left. Go straight ahead, crossing the fence ahead to the right through the gate. Walk on a stony path for 500m and pass the ruin of Kilcrohane Church on your left, and then continue on the green road ahead for 1km.
You bear left slightly to cross two small streams by bridge, and continue straight ahead along the green road, over a small hill, then down to join a surfaced road for 2km. Here you may wish to take a detour on the surfaced road to visit Staigue Fort, an excellent, well-preserved example of a Celtic ring-fort (2km, uphill).
