Tuesday 08/09/2005 Killarney, IR Day 3657 (Ireland Trip, Day 1, Part 4)

What Happened Today?

After 3 pints of Smithwick’s, we walked to another bar called Buke. Kay said it was a gay bar. Everyone seemed friendly. No Smithwick’s, we drank pints of Harps.

Then we found 4 Star Pizza and bought a small pizza. We each ate 3 slices.

Then we found one more pub called McSweeney’s and drank 2 more Smithwick’s and listened to live music.

We walked back to the B&B. In bed around 11:00 PM. PIC!

Tuesday 08/09/2005 Airplane, Day 3657 (Ireland Trip, Day 1, Part 1)

What happened Today?

We read and slept on the plane until landing in Shannon airport, Ireland.

Time is 5 hours ahead of Florida.

The plane used the whole runway and had to turn around and taxi back up the runway to the turnoff to the gates.

We collected our luggage after passing through immigration.

Weather was nice, temperature in the 70s.

We caught a bus at the Shannon airport to Limerick and then Limerick to Killarney. It took about 30 minutes to get to Limerick and over 2 hours to get to Killarney.

Tuesday 08/09/2005 Killarney, IR, Day 3657 (Ireland Trip, Day 1, Part 2)

What Happened Today?

Killarney is world renowned due to the unsurpassed beauty of the setting rather than to any historical or architectural features.

There is an interesting 19th century cathedral, and the National Park borders the southern edge of the town if you want a warmup walk!

A Franciscan church near the train station has a stained-glass window by Ireland’s famous artist, Harry Clarke.

Opposite is a sculpture by Seamus Murphy depicting the poets of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Other unique places are John Reidy’s shop on Main Street and Hussey’s pub at the end of High Street.

Monday 08/08/2005 Clearwater, FL Day 3656 (Ireland Trip, Day 0, Part 2)

What Happened Today?

We had quite a hike from C-29 to A-23 where the flight to Shannon departed.

Kay and I are both reading the Historian… Kay in regular print and me in LARGE PRINT.

We walked to a restaurant/bar near the gate called Shadeofblue. Kay ordered a ribeye sandwich, and I asked for a portabella and eggplant sandwich… really good!! We each drank 2 Amstel Lights.

Then we learned our flight was delayed until 10:30 PM. The plane was coming from Charlotte. We finally boarded at 10:30 PM, but because of so many delayed flights, didn’t depart until after midnight. (Toothache!) We had window/aisle seats. Dinner was served: barbecue beef for me, cheese tortellini for Kay.

Monday 08/15/2005 Foilmore, IR Day 3663 (Ireland Trip, Day 8, Part 4)

What Happened Today?

DAY 8: FOILMORE TO WATERVILLE

There is a ridge to both your left and right—take the left one as marked. The trail is very boggy. The spot height of 371m on your map should be just at the point where the Kerry Way bears off to Canuig Hill.

You will start to descend from the summit of Knockavahaun for 140m before ascending again on Canuig Hill. From the summit of Caniug Hill descend to a grass path and farm gate at the back of a farmhouse before reaching the tarmac road.

Turn right for 500m on the road, then first left. Walking for 1.5km straight ahead you will come to Foildrenagh Bridge over the river Inny, then turn right to Mastergeehy.
